Surgical Database Defragmentation:
The 11GB database was the single largest bottleneck. We conducted a deep-dive audit to identify and purge millions of rows of redundant data, legacy transients, and expired metadata. The result was a 82% reduction in database size, bringing it down to a lean 2GB. This didn't just speed up the site; it made backups faster and the entire server environment more resilient.
Strategic Plugin Consolidation:
Running nearly 100 plugins is a liability for security and performance. We performed a rigorous functionality audit, identifying overlaps and vulnerabilities. We successfully decommissioned 53 redundant plugins, reducing the count to 44 active tools. This halved the server's processing requirements and significantly hardened the site’s security posture.
Frontend & UX Transformation:
We overhauled the user journey by designing and launching the Unconference25.2 page and the Membership portal. Our team eliminated friction points, such as redundant pop-ups for logged-in users, and resolved the long-standing tablet-view bug. These changes ensured that the site’s premium aesthetic finally matched its premium brand.
Proactive Monitoring & Performance SEO:
We shifted the platform from a "fix-it-when-it-breaks" model to a proactive one. By integrating New Relic APM and custom Cloudways alerts, we enabled real-time monitoring of server health and database performance. Simultaneously, we executed a complete SEO cleanup, fixing broken links and implementing 302 redirects to ensure that the site’s search authority remained intact during the transition.
